Botànic Restaurant, Palma

A new concept of healthy all-day eating in Palma’s largest private garden

2019, Apr 15th

Botànic is the restaurant of the stunning 5-star hotel Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden in Palma’s La Lonja – but you don’t have to be staying overnight to eat here. Botànic opened late December 2018, offering all-day dining and a refreshing culinary concept for Palma: nourishing gourmet cuisine that’s largely plant-based, using organic local produce.

The indoor dining spaces are stylish and comfortable but, in fine weather, a table in the tranquil oasis of Palma’s largest private garden will be tempting.

Chef Andrés Benítez has more than seven years’ experience as head chef in a Michelin-starred restaurant and it shows in the execution and presentation of Botànic’s cuisine. His kitchen equipment includes a Josper charcoal oven.

Botànic offers breakfast (any time during the day), snacks, tapas, lunch, and dinner. The brunch menu offers a choice of four concepts: healthy, vegetarian, island, and international (yes, including traditional English), available at any time during the day. On Sundays, the table brunch is even more special with the addition of a glass of cava and live piano music in the garden.

For dinner, Botànic offers only a seven-plate tasting menu – great value for 50 €. This menu changes monthly and includes snacks to start, a local daily fish dish, pre-dessert and dessert.

The April tasting menu includes a rice dish of herbs and peas cooked with squid ink and served with crunchy squid, and a meat plate of sweet potato with beef – but just enough meat to appreciate its flavour and cooking – with spring onions and mustard sauce.

If you enjoy wine with dinner, it’s worth treating yourself to the excellent-value wine pairing at 30 €. The knowledgeable Italian sommelier Emiliano is creating a wine list with a difference and his pairings for the April menu impressed us.

Vegetarians and anyone who cares about nourishing themselves when eating out will find tempting options at Botànic Restaurant. As the weather becomes warmer, Can Bordoy’s beautiful garden will become a magnet in Palma’s old town. Be sure to book your table in advance.
