Cassai Beach House, Colonia de Sant Jordi

2019, Sep 16th

Stylish and situated right by the sea, Cassai Beach House is a relaxed place to enjoy tasty modern Mediterranean cuisine…

If you like to seize any opportunity to eat by the Mediterranean as summer slips into autumn, Cassai Beach House in Colònia de Sant Jordi is worth a visit. There’s an attractive nautical décor at this beachfront eatery at Cala Galiota. Three distinct dining areas are on different levels: the decked terrace is the lowest and closest to the beach.

Cassai Beach House is the sister establishment of the stylish Cassai Gran Café & Restaurant in Ses Salines. This newer restaurant is in a renovated former fisherman’s house on the Carrer Major.

The restaurant is open all day, every day during the season, and has a laidback vibe, with background music. It’s ideal for a break from the beach during the day or, in the evening, for dinner with a complimentary side order of a stunning sunset. You can also come here just for drinks.

The menu at Cassai Beach House includes tapas, pa amb olis, tartares, five varieties of salad, pastas and rice dishes, and meat and fish. The kitchen has a Josper wood-fired oven, used to cook its two varieties of hamburger, Iberian Pork, rib of lamb, and two types of steak. Vegetarians will find suitable dishes and there’s a small selection of dishes aimed at children.

For our lunch, we shared a tasty ration of plump home-made monkfish croquettes, (12,90 €); our main courses were a perfectly cooked cod loin served on a bed of Mallorcan tumbet (20,90 €) and red tuna with ponzu sauce and vegetables (23,50 €). Both dishes were of a generous size – which left us no room for dessert. The dessert choice includes Mallorcan almond cake with ice cream and chocolate sauce (6,50 €), Cassai lemon cheesecake, the ubiquitous chocolate brownie with ice cream, and a choice of ice creams and sorbets.

The wine list includes Mallorcan wines (some by the glass) and house wines. Other drinks include more than a dozen international premium gins, mojitos, and daiquiris; drivers and those who don’t drink alcohol will find alcohol-free cocktails and beers, as well as soft drinks.

This isn’t necessarily a place to eat a quick meal, but who wants to rush when you’re in such a lovely location as Cassai Beach House in Colònia de Sant Jordi?
