Lila Portals, Portals Nous
Restaurant and bar with beautiful Mediterranean views
2019, Feb 11st
Even if you didn’t know that the Spanish word for lilac was ‘lila’, you could probably guess: the décor of the waterfront restaurant Lila in Portals Nous features plenty of this colour. Lila Portals is at the end of a small road that leads to the seafront. Parking may be difficult during the summer but out of the main season you shouldn’t have any problems.
Lila Portals has a lovely view of the Mediterranean and the small island of En Sales from its large, decked terrace. Indoors, the décor is stylish and the chairs comfortable, with those lilac accents to remind you where you are. The open kitchen means you can see chef Jens Bräuning and his international team preparing Lila Portals’ tasty Mediterranean food.
The restaurant offers a daily-changing three-course set lunch for 24€, or you can choose individually priced dishes from this menu for a lighter lunch. There’s also an à la carte lunch menu. We had the day’s set menu, enjoying a bresaola and port-soaked fig salad to start; lightly battered fillet of hake with warm salad of lightly curried potato and lentils, and a mille-feuille of fresh cheese with vanilla sauce and chocolate ice cream. Portions are a good size in this restaurant, owned by Stefan Zaelke – who’s German but trained in Switzerland.
For dinner, as well as the à la carte menu, Lila offers the following tasting menus: the three-course Menu Mediterráneo for 41€, five-course Menu Mundial for 66€, and the plant-based Menu Vegano – three courses for 43€. Wine pairings are available for each menu.
During winter and until the middle of March, Lila Portals offers its Buena Vista Cooking Club on Wednesday afternoons at 17:00h, when chef Jens teaches one of three different classes: sauces; typical Mallorcan ‘fideuà’, and plant-based dishes
