Portixol Hotel & Restaurante, Palma

Scandi-cool eating by the sea

2018, Oct 29th

If you like to eat out in Palma but close to the Mediterranean Sea, the restaurant at the Hotel Portixol is well worth a visit. The Swedish-owned hotel has bags of Scandi style and a prime position in the picturesque Portixol harbour – a pleasant walk from the city centre.

In fine weather, sit at a table on the terrace with its gorgeous sea views. If you’re sitting in the dining room, you’ll have a view of the hotel’s lovely outdoor pool. The tables are well spaced and at night the room is attractively lit. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

At lunchtime there’s the option of what Hotel Portixol appropriately calls its Seaside Lunch: three courses with a choice of two dishes for each course for 19 €. It’s very good value for the standard of the food, service, and location.

Like the bistro in its sister establishment Hotel Espléndido in Port de Sóller, Portixol offers a tempting à la carte menu of Mediterranean and fusion dishes. Each is marked to show potential allergens and whether it is suitable for vegetarians.

Starters and sharing dishes include lobster salad with mango, miso soup, and sashimi, as well as Portixol toast with shrimps, crab meat, mayo and dill. The fish and pasta selection includes dishes such as Mallorcan-style cod, venere rice with prawns and seafood laksa, and woks. The restaurant also has its own Portixol hamburger, served with bacon and cheese, and French fries for 19,50€ and the classic Portixol Club Sandwich (choiceof two sizes).

Dessert lovers trying to keep down their intake of puds will be pleased to find a choice of mini desserts as well as full-sized ones. Start or end your meal with a drink in the bar, which doubles as the hotel’s comfortable lounge.
