Rosetó, Palma

A hideaway restaurant in the heart of Palma, with a courtyard for alfresco eating and a great-value menu.

2019, June 17th

Everyone should know a place to eat in Palma de Mallorca where they can escape the summer crowds and enjoy a well-priced lunch or dinner.

Rosetó Restaurant is such a place. Only a minute or two’s walk along narrow lanes behind Plaza Weyler, it’s located inside the Icon Rosetó Petit Palace. Although part of the boutique hotel, the restaurant is independently owned by the friendly Argentinian Nico Crispino, who’s lived in Mallorca for several years.

The attractive dining room has design appeal, but the large courtyard is the place to eat in fine weather. Some outdoor tables have permanent cover, but four of us shared a large round table under a parasol. A tall ‘living wall’ of plants and other shrubs and trees give the feel of a lush garden.

Rosetó Restaurant offers a weekly menu, which changes every Thursday, for lunch and dinner. A tasting menu will be reintroduced in the future. Three courses, bread with oil, salt and ali oli, water, and two glasses of wine costs only 16,95 €. There’s a choice of two starters, two mains, and two desserts for this price, but each menu section offers a couple of extra dishes, for a price supplement.

We had good bread, with oil and salt, olives, and what our friends said was a tasty ali oli. The chilled starter of apricot gazpacho was a big hit on the table. Between the four of us we tried both main course dishes: cod gratin with sobrasada, ali oli and smoky grilled vegetables, and the beef dish chimichurri picaña with couscous. Our desserts were a fig tart and a lime and cola rum baba – all good. We paid our bill feeling that we’d had value for money.

The interesting wine list offers mainly Spanish, with a good showing of Mallorcan labels, and a few Italian and French wines. Some are available by the glass and, like the food, the prices for wines at Rosetó Restaurant in Palma wouldn’t frighten your bank manager!
