Special concert of Christmas music in Sóller with such variety including the ‘Sibil-la’ and ‘Qué ocurre pastores’ from Mallorca, the Catalan ‘El Noi de la Mare’, the Basque ‘Birjiña Maite’ and the Spanish ‘Riu riu chiu’ and ‘O Reyes Magos benditos’. From England a vibrant version of ‘The Holly and the Ivy’ and from Italy, Monteverdi’s uplifting ‘Laudate Dominum’. Alongside other musical Christmas treats will be ‘Stille Nacht’ (the tune of ‘Silent Night’ in English) which Gruber was asked to compose on the night before Christmas mass as the organ in his local church had broken down and so it was written for guitar accompaniment, which is how it will be performed by Fiona Stuart-Wilson (soprano) and Guillermo Femenías (guitar and lute).
The concert starts at 18:00 and will finish by 19:00 so plenty of time for drinks or dinner in the Sóller plaza afterwards! Tickets at the door of the Capella de les Escolàpies, C/Batac 25, Sóller are 12 euros (6 euros for children under 21) and include a glass of cava!
