Café Rialto, Palma

Scandi chic and all-day home-cooked international cuisine

2019, Apr 1st

This week’s Restaurant of the Week is, in fact, a café, but it’s one with oodles of style, delicious international food, and friendly table service. Café Rialto is within the Swedish-owned lifestyle store Rialto Living, offering a comfortable and super-stylish place to eat and drink at any time during the day.

The café feels like a sanctuary from the bustle of the city, with the space bathed in natural light from above. The décor reflects the distinctive style of the whole store and the soft furnishings’ blue accents give a Mediterranean feel to the Scandi-chic eatery. There’s a variety of seating, including a cosy corner area. If you’re eating or drinking alone, there are magazines and newspapers to read.

Café Rialto offers a good-value breakfast of coffee, orange juice, and a filled roll – an ideal start to a day in the city. Throughout the day you can choose from a menu featuring starters, salads, main course dishes, and desserts. In addition, a blackboard at the entrance to both the store and the café shows the day’s special lunch dishes. All the dishes are made on the premises from fresh local produce.

International culinary influences are evident. Starters include rice-paper rolls with shrimp in Nanami Togarashi (12,50 €), and marinated salmon bao bun with beetroot salad, carrot, Chinese cabbage, pickles and horseradish mayonnaise (12,50 €).

The Rialto Salad is a personal favourite, featuring shrimp, strawberries, yuzu vinaigrette, avocado and nuts (13 €). Main course dishes include tuna tataki coated in Japanese spices with a tapioca and quinoa salad (16 €). Portions are generous and presentation attractive.

If you come for a hot drink, be sure to check out the home-made cakes that are usually displayed on the counter.

The choice of drinks is also interesting and includes healthy juices. Wine lovers should try the wines made from Rialto Living’s owners’ own vineyard.

Café Rialto offers tasty and varied food throughout the day, perfect for a break from shopping, sightseeing, or work. And be sure to visit the art gallery upstairs before you leave.
