Fiesta Time in Santa Ponça

In September 1229, King Jaume I of Aragon and his Christian knights and soldiers landed in Santa Ponsa to conquer Mallorca from the Moors. Their landing point is today marked by a stone cross, and the event is commemorated annually at the popular Festes del Rei en Jaume, which take place this year from August 26th until September 6th.

During these two weeks, Santa Ponsa hosts a varied programme of activities, including sporting competitions, music, comedy, dancing, parades, and children’s activities.

Highlights of this year’s fiesta include a big night of music on Friday, September 4th; the medieval market; the parade of the Calvià giants from 18:30h on this coming Saturday, and a concert featuring the rock bands Frankensteel, Born, and Lumina on Friday. August 28th.

The traditional fire run known as ‘correfoc’ is on Tuesday, September 1st, from 22:00h, and the Festes del Rei en Jaume closes on Sunday, September 6th, with a spectacular firework display.
