Visit a Haven for Art

Hollywood star and Mallorca homeowner Michael Douglas recently took to social media to enthuse about the Sa Bassa Blanca estate on the east coast of Alcúdia’s Alcanada headland, owned by his artist friends, Yannick Vu and Ben Jakober.

The estate dates from the 17th century and, since 1993, has been the home of the Yannick and Ben Jakober Foundation, which features several art attractions for visitors.

The Sa Bassa Blanca estate is a protected rural area, declared a wildlife sanctuary. The animals you’ll see, however, are more likely to be made of granite, as Sa Bassa Blanca has a superb sculpture park that will impress children, as well as adults. As you wander the winding paths of the park, you’ll discover different sculptures along the way and spectacular views beyond the park.

There’s also indoor art for some respite from the sun. Don’t miss the exhibition of portrait paintings of children from the 16th to the 19th century, known as Nins’, displayed in the estate’s underground, former water storage tank.

The Sokrates Room is described as a ‘contemporary cabinet of curiosities’ and, artistically, is in complete contrast to ‘Nins’.

Sa Bassa Blanca’s Sculpture Park is in a remote location, but food and drink are available in the estate’s Café La Paloma.
